Tale of two sales

Two harness racing yearling sales held 2010 Kilometres apart at approximately the same time yielded two different results. 

SA BOTRA with the assistance of HRSA held a 14-lot sale at the Gawler and Barossa Jockey Club with great results 13 of the 14 lots (92.8% at an average $15.932) found new homes, while at Albion Park Brisbane Nutrien Equine held its Sunshine Stars Sales where 39 of 62 lots (62.9%) sold at an average of $27,743.  

In South Australia, BOTRA’s idea of reintroducing any passed-in lots a second chance back in the ring proved fruitful with 2 of the initial 3 passed-in lots being sold. 

The top price was a colt offered by Bob and Zeta Maloney a colt by Captain Crunch, who sired his first winner down under that same morning in New Zealand, out of Steam Cleaned, which was knocked down to David Dury for $40,000. 

Aaron Bain paid $32,000 for a colt by Stay Hungry out of Crown Royale an Art Major mare who won 6 races. 

All 14 lots are eligible for a $25,000 sales race in 2025 with a bonus of $5,000 for the first filly over the line. 

While 2010 Kilometres away Summit Bloodstock paid $70,000 for a filly by Always Be Miki out of Mach Three mare Get In The Grove and then the syndication group parted with another $70,000 for a colt by the same sire out of Jovial Julie.  

Jamie Durnberger-Smith said we here at Summit Bloodstock team were big fans of Always B Miki and we are thrilled to be taking the pair home, both yearlings are heading to the barn of Emma Stewart and Clayton Tonkin. 

Media personality Brittany Graham paid $65,000 for stable client Mick Boots to secure a filly by Captaintreacherous out of Summertime. 

The yearling sale roadshow moves across the ditch to Auckland next Sunday the 18th of February then Christchurch over two days February 20 and 21st conducted by New Zealand Bloodstock.
