Tasmania Cup winner looking to end the drought

He has been out of the winner’s circle for over a year, but 2019 Tasmania Cup winner Shelby Bromac will be looking to end the drought when harness racing reruns to Launceston for a rare Wednesday night fixture.

The last win for the Bettors Delight gelding was in August 2019 when the pacer flew around Melton in 1m 55.2s and has since been transferred to the Magra stables of Juanita McKenzie where he has had five starts, including two placings at his last two outings.

The most recent placing was behind Full Speed ahead and Ryley Major in Hobart on 30 August. On that occasion, the pacer settled behind the leader where he used the sprint lane to be defeated 3.2 metres in what was only a dash up the straight.

Two starts ago Shelby Bromac raced outside the leader when running a brave second behind Scooterwillrev in a rating 75 to 84 event.

“He is racing well, he is up there with them, he is probably not as good as Ryley Major but there is not many that are as good as him,” said trainer Juanita McKenzie ahead of Wednesday’s race.

“He will go super tonight. Obviously Full Speed Ahead is going well and is the horse to beat,” explained the trainer.

Wednesday night the pacer faces a 10-metre handicap in the 2200-metre standing start event with the in-form Full Speed Ahead facing a tough ask from the 20-metre back mark, his last two wins have both been when he has been able to lead.

Concession reinsman Charlie Castles retains the drive on Shelby Bromac after partnering the pacer in his last two outings.

Castles has been driving in good form of late with one win and four placings in his last 10 drives.

“Charlie is a very good kid, I’m very impressed with the way he listens and the feedback he gives,” explained the trainer who has also booked him for the drive on Kardesler in the Great Northern Super Crisp Pace.

“He has got a good draw, he shouldn’t be too far away,” said McKenzie.

“He hasn’t had a lot of luck since he has been here, and when he has got luck he has won,” added the Magra based trainer.

Kardesler finished sixth in Hobart last time out where he recorded the second quickest last half mile of the race in 57.08s on the Tasracing Calculated Sectionals.

The first race Wednesday will be televised on Sky Racing 2 with the remainder of the card on Sky Racing 1.

All races will be shown on Sky Racing Active and TasracingTV from 17:22.
