Cool Water Paddy added another harness racing feature win to his resume in Launceston on Sunday night when taking out the Golden Mile in a slick 1:55.8 on a cold late Autumn night in Launceston.
Talented three-year-old Lancelot continued his progression through the rating system after making it three wins from three starts for the 2021 season.
It was a night of first wins with Miss Papenhuyzen and Iden Black Prince breaking their maidens, while Richmond Tiger recorded his first win since arriving in New Zealand.
The Stars
Cool Water Paddy ā added the Golden Mile to his impressive resume when the Juanita McKenzie-trained pacer broke the $100,000 prize-money barrier in the open class feature. Connections are looking at a one or two start Victorian campaign with the five-year-old gelding. It was the seventh Golden Mile win for driver Ricky Duggan. His first was with Golden Label in 1993 when the race carried prize money of $25,000.
Lancelot ā remains undefeated after three starts back as a three-year-old. His latest win was in a rating 54 to 58 event where he was able to lead and put the race beyond doubt from the 450-metre point. The success was the second-leg of a training and driving double for Todd Rattray, who scored earlier in the night with Kadar.
Geoff Smith ā has a good eye for purchasing the right horse to do a handy job in the state, and his recent stable addition Taxi Meter looks to fit that bill. The gelded son of Lonestar Legend hadnāt won since November 2019 but has slotted into the Smith stable well with a dominant first-up win on Sunday in a slick 1m 57.5s for the 1680-metre trip.
Cardinal Ringo ā was another pacer to find the winners’ circle for the first time since late 2019 when scoring in a rating 65 to 79 event. Settling one-out and six-back, driver Rohan Hadley was able to enjoy some solid early sections upfront before weaving his way through the field on the Chester Bullock trained pacer to score his seventh career win.
Jack Laugher – we often mention the great things the local-born participants are achieving interstate, and Jack was able to chalk up a milestone win on Friday with his 300th driving win. At the time of writing, Laugher has a narrow lead at the top of the Victorian Drivers’ Premiership with 85 wins for the 2021 season.
