They won the first two Inter Dominion pacing heats on Saturday night and ‘Team McCarthy’ has repeated that result at Bathurst tonight.
After winning with Expensive Ego, who smashed the Bathurst track record, his stablemate Spirit Of St Louis delivered in the second pacing heat of the night.
Causing a minor upset at $7, the son of Sweet Lou sat three wide the last lap to defeat ‘Team McCarthy’s’ other runner Alta Orlando in a rate of 1:54.4.
“He was great in the first round of heats and was just run down a nose,” said driver Luke McCarthy when returning to scale.
“If he draws well in the final and a few have to do work in the run, he will be there in the finish.
“He’ll need a lot of luck in the big one.”
The $500,000 Final will be held at Menangle on December 11.
The pacer that beat Spirit Of St Louis last week, Malcolms Rhythm, finished third tonight after sitting outside the leader while Ignatius finished fourth.
