The Janitor continues his clean up of big races

15 November 2025
in Australia, Top 4

The Janitor (Always B Miki) sharpened his speed credentials when as expected he played with his harness racing rivals to take out the 2025 Garrards The Be Good Johnny at Albion Park on Saturday night.

Driven in supremely confident style by Pete McMullen The Janitor was able to secure a one out and one back trail allowing Turn It Up to race to a clear lead from Aroda.

But with just under a lap left to travel McMullen left the trail and he raced past Turn It Up with consummate ease. Running his third quarter in 27.3 seconds The Janitor showed his awesome speed. Birkikara who had been buried back three on the rails started to obtain an inside run to try and make it interesting but The Janitor held him off by just over three metres with Turn It Up in third place.

Trainer Chantal Turpin has always thought highly of The Janitor and now he gets his chance to prove himself in the big time. Whilst there is no suggestion that The Janitor is at the level of local hero Leap To Fame, he is still only a four year old and a potential Miracle Mile invitation for next season might not be out of the question.

In the meantime it would appear that a suitable forthcoming event for him would be the $75,000 Group 2 Garrards Sunshine Sprint at Albion Park on 29 November.

The win has capped off a memorable week for the Chantal Turpin – Pete McMullen team after their wonder trotter Gus landed the big trotting double at Addington upstaging the very best of New Zealand and Australian trotter on offer.

Now it seems as if The Janitor is poised to make his mark in the top echelon of pacers in the near future.

The Janitor’s dam Meka Lass has had a remarkable career as a broodmare as her five previous progeny have all won races including She’s Got Issues, Sally Maclellane, Reciprocity (1.53), Demeter (30 wins and 1.52) and Beach Start.

Following The Janitor’s win, heavy rain and deteriorating weather conditions all worked to cause the remaining six events including the Ladbrokes finals to be abandoned.
