Inter Dominion runner up Speak The Truth was expected to win from his pole draw with The Janitor the widest runner.

Speak The Truth had no trouble holding on to the early lead and Pete McMullen allowed The Janitor to ease back in a one out position. Gradually he started to move up but it was going to be a tough task to race outside Speak The Truth for the entire trip.

Speak The Truth ran his first two quarters in 28.5 and 28.6 seconds and looked to be cruising. The Janitor was still battling away with Jimartee in the one out and one back trail starting to flounder.

Showing great courage The Janitor laid down the gauntlet to Speak The Truth and as they turned the corner the two were locked together. But The Janitor displaying real class gradually clear and he had just over two metres to spare over the fast finishing Frankie Ferocious with Speak The Truth in third.

Pete McMullen indicated his faith in The Janitor.

“I was confident a long way from home, he is just feeling so good.”

“He never feels like he is going that quick, he just does it so easy.”

The Janitor has really shone in a number of his races this season but his win last night and the way he defeated such a good performer in Speak The Truth speaks volumes for his ability. Trainer Chantal Turpin has always indicated her high opinion of the gelding and he should earn a start in the Len Smith Mile on the strength of his most impressive performance.

Stable mate Dele Row was scratched from race as he has been sold to North America, the stable has four horses on flight other three being – La Miki, Nila Maree, Its Electrifying (Captaintreacherous) who won the opening.  The four are are all owned by Canadian Mike Tanev.
