What a night for the North-West coast of Tasmania last Saturday night in Hobart with Smithton harness racing owner-breeders, Trevor and Marjorie Leis, tasting success with their Vincent filly Swiatek Leis claiming the fillies division of the Two-year-old Sweepstakes.

The win gave the Leis their third success in the Sweepstakes following Zyganov Leis (1996) and Litvinko Leis (2007) who were successful in the colts and gelding division of their respective years.
The Leis have been breeding and racing standardbreds since the early 1970ās when Trevor moved to Smithton to work as a veterinarian.
After failing to purchase a filly called Peta Paige, Trevor Leis ended up purchasing her mother Valencia Bay. A daughter of Scotty Belmont, Valencia Bay appears as the third-dam of Swiatek Leis.
Leis did eventually end up with Peta Paige as a broodmare at the end of her racing career. Peta Paige went on to produce Herbition who won 18 races including the Raider Stakes and Zyuganov Leis 31 wins.
Swiatek Leis’ sire, Vincent is doing an amazing job with 12 individual two-year-old winners this season and has sired 29 winners from 62 starters when combining his three-year-old crop.
The colts and gelding division winner of the Two-year-old sweepstake went to Art Major gelding Hazewillrev who remains unbeaten in four lifetime starts. Hazewillrev is also from the Nort-West coast being trained by Craig Hayes at Stowport and a group of owners including Mick āThe vegi manā Filleui and football administrator, Rob Gillies.
