Talented four year old trotter The Locomotive (Muscle Mass) served notice for his Inter Dominion credentials when he ran his harness racing rivals ragged in a brilliant all the way display to take out the Cannibal standing at Cobbity Equine Farm Trotters mobile at Menangle Park last night.
In winning The Locomotive ran a new Australian track record with a mile rate of 1.55 for the 2300 metres breaking a three year old record held by Tough Monarch who recorded 1.55.6.
Now trained by Brad Hewitt, The Locomotive was sent out a short favourite ahead of star trotter London To A Brick who was returning from a spell.
Displaying blistering speed from the mobile The Locomotive had no trouble crossing Toro Stride and from then on he led his rivals a merry dance. London To A Brick was given time to settle down early by driver James Rattray but with such a fast pace being set by The Locomotive Rattray had no option but to go outside the leader. However he never looked comfortable and The Locomotive broke clear on straightening to record a 24 metre victory over a game Toro Stride with Affaire de Cover edging out London To A Brick for third.Ā
The Locomotive has always had a touch of class and as a two year old took out the Nutrien final as well as theĀ 3 and 4YO Vicbred series. Heās in rare form having won four of his five starts and will give a great sight should he contest the Inter Dominion series.
THE LOCOMOTIVE REPLAY
London To A Brick will be improved by the run and should perform better at his next appearance.Ā
