The Lost Storm nearing his peak

Outstanding three-year-old The Lost Storm (Captaintreacherous) showed he is nearing his peak for next month’s $2.1m TAB Eureka when he toyed with his harness racing rivals in the TAB 3YO Pace at Melton tonight (Aug. 12).

Having his first start since winning the Queensland Derby, The Lost Storm settled mid field as the leaders charged through the first 1200 metres of the last mile in 1:26.3.

When Mark Pitt made a three wide move with 600 metres to travel The Lost Storm quickly rounded up the opposition and bounded clear on straightening to score from Final Collect and Louie Lou I in a mile rate of 1:53.1.

Pitt said he was pleased with the effort.

“I thought he was super impressive tonight,” Pitt said.

“There was a quick lead time and strong tempo but once he loomed up he thought his job was done but he wasn’t flat out, he was just waiting for them.

But once I flicked him a couple of times I could feel him go again,  so that’s always a good sign and I still think there is a bit of improvement in him yet,” he said.

Pitt and part owner Justin Baker were in deep discussion immediately after the race.

“We were discussing what the plan is whether he may run at Ballarat next Friday night or he may miss that and go straight into The Eureka,” he said.

Pitt is confident The Lost Storm will acquit himself well against the older horses in the world’s richest harness race.

“I give him a big chance in The Eureka,” he said.

“He’s going up against some great horses but he’s going to get a good  draw and benefits against four-year-olds like Leap To Fame.

I personally think he’s right in it with a big show.”
