Orchard Hills businessman and hobby harness racing breeder Ron Littler will always have a soft spot for the Jeremy Lobell mare Lotus Lobell.
Littler and his late wife Kay, raced the mare throughout her 23-start career which yielded nine wins including two at both Harold Park and Menangle and five placings.
At the stud Lotus Lobell has produced eight live foals, of which six have been successful – all inside 2:00 – including the Hondo Grattan Sprint and Tamworth Cup winner Better Than Max 1:51.5 ($178,217) and Major Statement ($135,633).
Ron is now breeding from three of Lotus Lobell’s daughters in the 2021/22 NSW Broodmare of the Year Gifted Bliss and her sisters Ablissfull Gift and Triple Bliss.
The trio were all sired by the successful Cam Fella line import Blissfull Hall.
Gifted Bliss and Triple Bliss are represented by Lots 328 and 392 respectively at the Australian Pacing Gold sale at Warwick Farm on Sunday, February 25.
Gifted Bliss, who won 10 races and, at one stage, held the three-year-old track record at Penrith, will be represented by a lovely Captaintreacherous filly at the auction.
“She’s a magnificent, big chested filly. She’s one of the nicest yearlings you will ever see,” Littler stated.
The filly is a half-sister to the NSW Breeders Challenge and APG Gold Sovereign and Gold Bullion winner My Ultimate Ronnie 1:50.4 ($391,353) and the Norm’s Daughter winner and multiple Group placegetter Little Bliss 1:51.2 ($224,496).
My Ultimate Ronny, who was sold for $60,000 at the APG Sydney sale in 2020, and Little Bliss are the two best performers Littler has ever bred.
Triple Bliss, who was unraced, has a lovely filly by the leading sire A Rocknroll Dance in the sale.
Completing the Littler draft is Lot 379, a colt by the outstanding pacer and 2018 Inter Dominion champion Tiger Tara, now making an impact at the stud, out of the 2011 APG 2YO Final winner Rosa Mach ($239,588).
Rosa Mach’s first four foals are all sub 2:00 winners and her sixth foal, the American Ideal two-year-old Rosa Dundee, ran a close second going 1:57 in a trial at Menangle on Wednesday.
The Littler consignment are being prepared by Menangle horsewoman Alana Toulmin.
