The Emma Stewart trained The Narcissist (Always B Miki) served a warning that he is headed for better things with a strong performance to take out the Listed City of Melton Plate at Melton last night.

The former Queensland pacer has now won six races on end for Stewart and continues to defy expectations.
Last night he was out three wide early but driver Greg Sugars allowed him to race up alongside stablemate Sir Jimmy who had done some work to take the lead.
Nonetheless Sugars was determined to press on and he was in front soon after.
THE NARCISSIST MAR 22 REPLAY
The Narcissist had a bit of a breather running his first quarter in 30.1 and second quarter in 30.4 seconds. This allowed him to have a lot more in the tank in the last half but even so after having had such a hard run to get to the front it was reasonable to assume that he might weaken. But Sugars still had a hold as The Narcissist drew clear on straightening and unextended he scored by 7 metres from stablemate Best Deal with Louie Lou I running on for third.
Best Deal who was a solid second favourite was eased back to the rear from his second row draw. He was three wide along the back straight making up some ground but it was obvious that it was too difficult a task to gather in The Narcissist.
However he was still running on at the finish to finish a gallant runner up. Best Deal was resuming having not raced since last October when he took out the Victoria Derby Final.
He can only improve on that effort.
Greg Sugars was pleased after the effort.
“It was a really good solid strong performance. When the speed went on down the back he opened up a break he was still going strong through the line.”
“He’s a lovely horse. I couldn’t go any faster but he just kept going away at that speed for quite some time.”
“He’s a funny sort of horse, even with that top speed like that he doesn’t feel he’s going as quick as he is. He was always doing it well within himself even though he covered extra ground early.”“He’s definitely a horse that could measure up to the likes of Better Eclipse. He’s a lot stronger. And his ability is every bit as good.”
