Some of the world’s top trainers and drivers produced the next generation of harness racing stars at Menangle last Saturday night.
A number of young drivers stepped out to compete in the mini trots – races for young drivers between the ages of five and 17 behind ponies.
One driver that made his mini trotting debut was young Finn McCarthy, the son of leading North American driver Andy McCarthy.
Enjoying an Australian summer break with family, Finn made the trip across the world with his parents Andy and Katrina.
Finn’s dad Andy was one of the top-earning reinsmen in the United States last year collecting in excess of $US8.7million in stakes and his uncle Todd McCarthy was close behind earning over $US7.4million.
Completing the family tree, Finn’s uncle Luke McCarthy was the top driver at Menangle last year and Aunty Belinda McCarthy was the leading trainer at that track.
Luke and Belinda’s daughters Lily and Madi were alongside their younger cousin Finn, also competing at the mini trots last Saturday night.
Others at the mini trots following in their parents’ footsteps included Riley and Archie Morris.
Riley is the son of driver David Morris and Archie is the son of driver Robert Morris and trainer KerryAnn Morris.
