Promising filly The Swift One (Renaissance Man) followed up with her Heat win to her list when she outlasted Our Ultimate Jane in the $100,000 Cobbity Equine NSW Breeders Challenge Blue for two year old harness racing fillies at Menangle Park last night.
In a driving finish The Swift One was perfected rated by big race driver Gary Hall Jnr who elected to take the sit behind the well supported favourite Our Ultimate Jane who surprised most when she showed blistering speed from the pole to easily hold out the lead.
The Swift One continued to sit behind Our Ultimate Jane who was kept busy on the outside by Wicked Susan who had unleashed a big run along the back straight.
Hall Jnr was able to ease The Swift One off the leaders back turning from home but it took the whole length of the straight for her to run down a brave Our Ultimate Jane. It was a lucky pick up drive for Hall Jnr who was at Menangle with his star pacer Never Ending in the TAB Eureka.
The Swift One ran a blistering 1.53.7 for the 1609 metres due mainly to the pace set by Our Ultimate Jane who was only having her second start.
Darrell Dwyer who trains at Perthville near Bathurst has had recent success with handy pacer Carbaganoosh but The Swift one is now a classic winner making amends for her second placing in the Pink Bonnet Mile last May.
Will Rixon who had driven The Swift One in her previous three runs including her heat win opted to drive the well fancied Violet Hanover and despite being up with the leaders and then with a trail could only finish sixth although she was inconvenienced shortly after the start.
THE SWIFT ONE REPLAY
The eye catching run was outsider Wicked Susan who was caught wide but continued to worry the leader and she was still battling away in the home straight to finish a creditable fourth placing.
Our Ultimate Jane was gallant in defeat and she will only improve on that effort. Her driver Cameron Hart has a big opinion of the filly and she will strip a much fitter horse in forthcoming races under the watchful eye of her astute trainer Jarrod Allchin.
