Peter and Sandra Bryant are dedicated sheep and cattle farmers based between Warrnambool and Portland on the south coast of Victoria.
They are also enthusiastic breeders in the Harness Racing Industry and on 4th February will offer two Fillies by the champion sire Art Major at the APG Sale at the Inglis Complex in Melbourne.
One of these fillies is the ninth and last foal from the Classic Garry mare Classic Malibu. This is where the breeding caper commenced for the Bryant’s when they acquired Classic Malibu in the early 2000’s.
She has been a grand producing mare for them – her first seven foals are all winners and have collected 56 victories between them.
By the way Classic Garry was not only the Leading Sire of Australia in 2000 but has been a highly successful Broodmare Sire with his daughters producing almost 1,000 individual Australian bred winners who have banked over $46 million between them.
This filly, LOT 125, who is a well rounded and athletic type is one of only four Art Major fillies in the Melbourne catalogue.
The Bryant’s second offering is also by the record-breaking stallion Art Major from the Rock N Roll Heaven mare Rock Setter. This Filly, LOT 196, is certainly Five Star on paper as her Dam is a full sister to the Group One winning 2 year old filly Heavens Trend 1.52.1 and the filly herself is a half sister to the recent Tasmanian Oaks winner Paradise Valley 1.55.2.
Heavens Trend won or was placed in seven Group One races on her way to a career record that saw her bank $385,683 for her owners. On 13th June 2015 she scorched the Menangle track in 1.52.1 to become the fastest 2-year-old filly in Australia at that time.
There is one thing very obvious about the pedigree page for this LOT 196, a filly , and that is the number of highly talented females that are closely related.
- Paradise Valley [a half-sister] – winner of 2023 Tasmanian Oaks.
- Heavens Trend [full sister to Dam] won 21 of 35 starts incl NSW Breeders Challenge [2yo] and 2nd in Vic Oaks.
- The Granddam and third dams Trend Setter and Trendy Brooke won 31 races between them and over $270,000
- Bonnie Jujon 1.56 – winner of 13 races and $120,154.
These are good signs in a pedigree when you are shopping for a Filly to race .
Art Major is the sire of these two impressive fillies and he will be written into the History Books as one of the greatest ever Sires . He has just won his eighth 2 Year Old Sires Premiership and this from 12 or 13 eligible crops.
He has now sired almost 1,300 Australian bred winners from 2,300 foals of racing age and these 1,300 winners have accumulated $91 million between them.
Art Major is the complete sire as his fillies are almost the equal of his colts and his progeny will earn racetrack dollars from 2-year-olds to beyond.
Bothe fillies, LOT 125 and LOT196, have been born , raised and now prepared for the Sale at Albert Davis’s Teela Park at Numurkah in northern Victoria.
Being two of only four Art Major fillies in the Sale should put them on the shopping Lists of any filly buyer.
Intending Purchasers at this years Melbourne Sale are in for an unexpected windfall. The Catalogue is offering just 53 fillies and 52 colts that are eligible for the APG Race Series for 2 year olds with separate $150,000 Finals to be held at Melton in 2025.
