Some of harness racing’s top drivers will take part in the Australian Drivers’ Championship at Globe Derby on Saturday night (Sep. 17).
There will be 11 heats with the winner being determined by points throughout the night.
Drivers in the series will also be up for selection to represent Australia in next year’s World Driving Championship in Italy.
New South Wales’ top driver Cameron Hart has given up a feature drive at Menangle on the night to be part of the series.
This is the first time the 23-year-old will take part in the Australian Drivers’ Championship with the last two years cancelled due to Covid.
“I’m quite excited it’s always good to represent my state of NSW and it’s my first time going over to South Australia and seeing Globe Derby’s track,” Hart said in a Sky Channel interview.
“When I get to a new racetrack I usually look up results and the lead times, what’s quick, what’s slow, they are the little things I look at.
“Then I’ll probably go and ask some of the better local drivers for a couple of little tips before I start and see how I go.
“All the states in Australia have all different styles of racing, especially here in Sydney where Menangle is such a big track so just to get all the drivers in one race and see how the tactics work out it’s going to be very good to watch.”
The drivers competing are:
Western Australia – Gary Hall Jnr (defending champion) and Emily Suvaljko
South Australia – Wayne Hill and Ryan Hryorec
Victoria – Kate Gath and James Herbertson
Tasmania – Rohan Hillier and Conor Crook
New South Wales – Cameron Hart and Grace Panella
Queensland – Narissa and Peter McMullen
