There was no prizemoney on the line but there were plenty of heads turned with the performance of Sydney pacer Art Tutor at harness racing’s Penrith trials tonight.
The unhoppled son of Art Major is a last start Menangle winner where he rated 1:51.5 last Saturday week but was produced at the trials on Monday night by trainer Joe Conolly where he went faster than the track record.
Driven by young reinsman Seaton Grima, Art Tutor went forward and rolled through the quarters in 28.2, 28.8, 28.1 and 27.4 seconds returning a mile rate of 1:52.2.
The track record for the 1720m in race conditions is 1:53.6 held by Ignatius.
