Bathurst harness racing trainer Bernie Hewitt will head back home to add the final touches on his next Group 1 starters.

The 60-year-old mentor has trained six Group 1 winners this year with the latest being Jewel Melody in last weekend’s QBRED Triad Final at Albion Park.

After a successful stint in Queensland, Hewitt returns back to his home base and has more Group 1 starters at Menangle this Saturday night (Aug.27) in the inaugural Nutrien Equine Finals.

Hewitt has Glenferrieman (Rock N Roll Heaven) in the two-year-old boys $175,000 final and Logan Dream (Tintin In America) in the fillies’ edition.

The latter is still a maiden while Glenferrieman has won one start to date.

Having trained 71 winners in NSW this season, Hewitt is the second top trainer in the state behind KerryAnn Morris who has trained 90 winners.
