MULTIPLE Group 1 winning harness racing trainer & driver, Jack Trainor, has lodged an appeal against the three-month disqualification handed down yesterday by The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission.
The penalty was the result of an inquiry into a brawl at Albion Park on the final night of the Brisbane Carnival on July 22.
Dual Inter Dominion winning trainer Jason Grimson was disqualified for 12 months after pleading guilty to assaulting Brisbane Racing Club employee Adam Russo.
QRIC Chief Steward David Farquharson said Grimsonās role in the incident was regarded as āhigh rangeā.
āThe assault took part over a period of time, we were able to obtain CCTV footage of the incident which occurred from two different camera angles and Jason Grimson was one of the people of interest and we had to enquire into his actions, āFarquharson said.
Farquharson said Trainorās involvement was regarded as āon the lower end of the scaleā.
Farquharson said the disqualified persons have three working days to lodge an appeal.
āAt this stage the only person to lodge an appeal is Jack Trainor,ā he said.
āThe agitator in the incident Adam Russo was warned off all racecourses for six months and owner Justin Downey was warned off racecourses for a period of 12 months.ā
Trainor’s appeal was heard today where he was granted a stay of proceedings through til the 13th of September.
