Trainor stable going all-out attack on mares feature

Tonight’s $50,000 Sky Racing Sibelia Stakes at Menangle is under siege.

The Jack Trainor harness racing stable is going all-out attack on the 1609m mares feature with four of the 10 runners.

And if there are any scratchings in the race, Trainor could actually have as many as six runners, as he also trains the two emergencies.

Star New Zealand mare Stylish Memphis, with Trainor in the bike, will fight for favouritism with her stablemate Braeview Kelly (Cameron Hart).

Drawn perfectly in gate two, Braeview Kelly, a five-year-old daughter of boom sire Bettors Delight smashed the clock with a 1:50 win to account for Stylish Memphis the last time they met.

Trainor also has the plucky B K Swy (Josh Gallagher) and Captn Me (Jack Brown) in the race with Orchid Stride and Delightful Angel the first and second emergencies.

“I couldn’t have been happier with Braeview Kelly last start at her first run back,” Trainor told National Trotguide on-line’s Mike Ko’cass.

“She went super, considering I thought she would benefit from that run.

“I expect another really good show from her tonight.

“And any chance of me getting the drive back is probably out the window as Cam is pretty happy to be aboard her tonight.”

Not that Trainor would forfeit the drive on his favourite mare, Stylish Memphis.

“She had a great trip but I did a bit of work on Stylish Memphis and it took me 600-700m to get to the marker line,” he said.

“Stylish Memphis actually hasn’t won a race since she left here last year.

“But it’s hard to be disappointed with how she’s  going.

“This week I should be able to drive her how she likes to be driven, and that’s back off the speed.”

Trainor said the Kiwi mare felt as good as she did the first time around when she competed here in 2021.

“She ran unbelievable sectionals to win her first Ladyship and last year she still won but I had a few feet problems with her and I think she wasn’t at her absolute best and they may have told in her races,” he said.

“She had some good trips but didn’t feel quite as brilliant.

“This time she feels every bit as good as that first time around and I’m hoping we will again see the best of her.”

Trainor also warned that if his two star mares did do anything wrong, gutsy mare B K Swy was capable of causing an upset as well.
