After some career highlights in the sulky last season Jack Trainor is now stamping himself as one of the top harness racing trainers in New South Wales.
And he started the new season on the right note, training the first Group winner in the state courtesy of Chevron Artās success in Sundayās Intercity Pace Final at Maitland.
The $30,600 Group 3 adds to Trainorās list of training credits including four Group wins that he obtained last season.
In the sulky, Trainor had a memorable year driving his first Group 1 winner with Stylish Memphis in the Ladyship Mile and then going on to win a further three Group 1 races last season.
Despite his success in the gig, Trainor utilised junior driver Jack Callaghan on Chevron Art yesterday.
After starting from the second row, Callaghan positioned the son of Art Major one-out two back while the tempo was fast in front.
Callaghan made a move in the back straight the final time and with the closing two quarters in 28.9 seconds each, Chevron Art went past Far Out Bro, who raced outside the leader throughout, to win by more than a metre in a rate of 1:58.6.
āHe went super,ā said Trainor.
āThe race didnāt work out so well for others but my horse had the perfect run which was lucky.
āHeās only a lightly-raced horse and so now the focus will be to race him through his grades and in metropolitan class.ā
Chevron Art has now won six of his 16 starts.
The New Zealand-bred four-year-old has had 10 starts in Australia for five wins.
