The Emma Stewart trained mare Treachery (Captaintreacherous) completed back to back harness racing wins in The Tailamade Lombo after leading all the way at Melton in the mares classic.Ā
Treachery ($2.60 fav) speared from the gate to cross the field from her outside front row draw leaving stablemate and $1.70 favorite Tough Tilly sitting parked over the 1720 metre sprint trip.Ā
When Kerryn Manning released the reins around the final bend, Treachery reeled off a slick 26.4 last 400 metres giving nothing else a chance scoring by four metres from her stablemates Tough Tilly and Star Celebrity in a mile rate of 1:52.9.Ā
Manning acknowledged finding the lead was the catalyst in winning the race.Ā
āI only just got across and had to work for it but to her credit she did it at both ends,ā Manning said.Ā
āShe used to be a little bit suspect if she worked early but she has matured a lot as sheās got older, yeah she went super tonight,ā she said.Ā

The daughter of Captaintreacherous returned slick closing sectionals in last Sundayās Maryborough Pacing Cup after racing keenly mid field in the running line.Ā
āI was a little bit worried once I fired her up and she might not come back to me but she was really good and settled well, Tough Tilly was a bit keen outside me and kept the pressure on but when I asked her she had plenty left,ā she said.Ā
Manning believes Treachery has bridged the gap on Victoriaās best race mares.Ā
āIāve driven her quite a few times now and she is just a lovely horse to drive,ā she said.Ā
āShe was always a bit below the better ones as a two and three-year-old but she has got better and better as sheās got olderā.Ā
