Just like her grandfather and father before her Amanda Turnbull will get her chance at Inter Dominion glory next weekend.
Her grandfather is the late A.D. Turnbull who won the Inter Dominion two years in a row with Hondo Grattan in 1973 and 1974.
It was then in 2002 Turnbullās father Steve Turnbull won the Grand Circuit gem with Smooth Satin at Harold Park.
And now Turnbull, New South Walesā champion reinswoman, has secured her spot Saturday nightās $500,000 Inter Dominion Pacing Championship at Menangle when Bundoran caused an upset in a heat at Newcastle tonight.
After drawing perfectly in barrier one, Turnbull and Bundoran, a $10.20 chance, followed the pace behind the leader as Max Delight led the field.
The quarters were slick as a few mid-race moves saw the leader pressured throughout and they were 29.3, 28.9, 26.9 and 28 seconds.
This resulted in a track record of 1:53.2 for the 2030m.
“It was really good and I’m really excited,” said Turnbull.
“He had a good draw and just travelled so good.
“Hopefully we can have a bit of fun.”
Max Delight held on for second while Spirit Of St Louis was third and Royal Gamble was fourth.
Bundoran is a gelded son of Sir LincolnĀ and has won 11 races in his 35-start career.
The New Zealand import started racing in Australia earlier this year.
