Two Group 1 winners and ready for the next

In form driver Robert Morris.

Fresh from winning back-to-back Group 1 races Menangle reinsman Robert Morris is heading back to Newcastle on Friday night.

Morris drove two Group 1 winners within 40 minutes at Menangle on Saturday night with success in the Breeders Challenge Final with Tims A Trooper and then the Len Smith Mile with The Black Prince.

“As a boy growing up you dream of winning races like this,” said Morris.

“I’ve been very fortunate in my career to have driven some very nice horses in big races and I find for me, if I just stay my larrikin self and have a joke and a laugh and not overthink anything, I do my job and for me on Saturday night it come off.”

Both results were upsets on the night with the latter at starting odds of $81 despite being a Group 1 winner this year when winning the Newcastle Mile last February.

Morris drove The Black Prince on that occasion too, however, has been missing from the driving ranks in the Hunter region of late due to regional racing in place.

Morris heads back to his happy hunting ground at Newcastle with drives in eight of the nine races.
