Unbeaten record with first trotter in stable to continue

Promising trotter Majestic Trio has drawn to complete a hat-trick when she heads to harness racing’s Club Menangle track on Tuesday.

Winner of her last New Zealand start in Cambridge on December 16, Majestic Trio provided her new connections with an instant reward when she scored in Canberra a fortnight ago.

Trainer-driver Brad Hewitt.

On that occasion Majestic Trio worked overtime in the ‘death seat’ before powering her way to a six-and-a-half metre win in 2:01.9 over 1770 metres.

Pleased with the mare’s progress, trainer Brad Hewitt is quietly confident Majestic Trio can round out the hat-trick after drawing the pole in race three.

“She was a bit of an unknown quantity in Canberra which I used as a guide to see how well she goes,” Hewitt said. “She got away safely and did well to navigate that small track without any problems.

“Her work since has been solid and hopefully she will be better again.

“This is my first trotter, so I’m learning as I go as well as learning about her each time I put her in the cart.

“At home she is good from behind and in front, but it is hard to line them up when looking at the draw.

“She’s a nice mare which should win a few races, but I wouldn’t want a stable full of trotters…I’d rather pacers.”

Citing Agent Maori as the one to beat, Hewitt is also wary of the gelding’s KerryAnn Morris-trained stablemate Strength Of Heart.

Also a last start winner, Agent Maori will begin from barrier eight, with Strength Of Heart drawn three

“Agent Maori won his last start and is always consistent,” Hewitt said.

“Strength Of Heart was an eye-catching run last week when making his debut for KerryAnn and is sure to improve this time around.”

Elsewhere on the card Surf Ace appears to be well placed to ride a wave into the winners’ circle.

Making his Menangle debut last week, Surf Ace was a handy third in what was his fourth start for leading trainer Jack Trainor.

The son of Somebeachsomewhere won his first two outings in Bathurst for Trainor before a tough fourth in Penrith after racing in the ‘death seat’.

To be driven by concession reinsman Jack Brown, Surf Ace will come from barrier five.

Successful at his first start for trainer Peter Russo when outstaying his rivals at Menangle last week, I Am Marquez shapes as the one to beat from barrier six.
