Emerging Grand Circuit harness racing star Swayzee (Rock N Roll Heaven) produced a bold front running performance to score an upset win over his younger half-brother Leap To Fame in the Group 1 $400,000 Blacks A Fake at Albion Park.
Swayzee was first to the pegs from his favorable front row draw and driver Cameron Hart decided to turn the 2680 metre feature of the Queensland Constellations Carnival into the ultimate staying test.
Grant Dixon made a three wide move on Leap To Fame to sit outside Swayzee with two laps to travel and Hart upped the tempo running through the first half of the last mile in 57.2.
Swayzee ($6.50) was relentless running his last 800 metres in 54.8 and comfortably held off Leap To Fame in the home straight scoring by six metres in a mile rate of 1:54.
The win provided Hart and NSW horseman Jason Grimson with back to back wins in the race having been successful last year with Majestic Cruiser.
āI canāt believe it, last year was a huge thrill and again tonight this horse went absolutely super, heās such a good horse and a pleasure to drive,ā Hart said.
āHeās such a strong horse and I thought Leap To Fame would have to be out of this world to beat me tonight with the time I ran so I couldnāt be happier,ā he said.
SWAYZEE REPLAY
Hart acknowledged the training feat of Grimson who took delivery of the pacer three months ago.
āHeās always had a lot of ability and Jason has unlocked that during the last few weeks and weāre reaping the rewards now,ā he said.
Hart said he knew Swayzee would be the horse to beat if he maintained a genuine tempo throughout.
āI nearly got beaten on him in the Goulburn Cup because I went a little too slow and nearly got caught napping but tonight I had him out and rolling and it was a matter of running the right sectionals at the right time,ā he said.
Leap To Fame lost few admirers after it was revealed he carried a flat tyre for the final 300 metres of the race.
