The Victorian harness racing community was shocked by the sudden passing of one of the most delightful women in the sport, Pam Hockham.
Pam, husband Russell and family raced numerous horses including 1999 Mildura Cup winner Sheffield Mark, who gave her and the family a highly treasured moment.
They also were involved with many smart horses in later years including Candy Maker (23 wins) Shadow Sax (23), Devilish Smile (20), Demon Delight (13) and Maraetai (12) to name just a few.
Through her love of the industry, Pam became involved with the Victorian Owners Association, serving as President, and Cranbourne Harness Racing Club, where she is Vice-President after joining the committee in 2000.
Pam and Russell loved harness racing, being prominent breeders for more than 40 years.
She was also a fanatical member of the AFL’s Melbourne Football Club, with the pair hardly missing a game and travelling all over Australia to watch them play, a passion reflected in their red and blue silks.
Cranbourne Harness Racing Club racing manager Cameron Gallagher paid tribute to Pam, saying it was advantageous to have her at the regular committee meetings, the latest being last Tuesday when she was in great spirits.
Funeral details are yet to be announced.
HRV extends its sincere condolences to Russell, the Hockham family and their many friends on her passing.
