The Victor Harbor Harness Racing Club will hold its cup meeting on Monday, January 25.
The meeting is the Victor Harbor Cup meeting and it is a family fun day with the racing commencing at 1.17pm. At Morgan Park there is full catering facilities, TAB and bookmakers. This season the club will hold three meetings with the next one on Easter Sunday or Monday, as it has to be confirmed by Harness Racing SA.
Each meeting is being promoted as a family day at the Trots and will include a full seven race program. All meetings are day meetings and the Cup meeting on Monday, January 25, according to Victor Harbor Harness Racing Club secretary/treasurer Tony Neale will be the big one with plenty of entertainment for children and families.
“We are very happy with the way the harness club has been going,” Tony said.
“The Cup meeting in 2015 was really successful with more than 800 attending. The Cup meeting in 2016 we expect to get over 1000 to come.
“All our meetings have a strong family focus with so many activities for the kids.”
The race program boasts excellent prize money and according to Tony it will also attract quality horses to come to Victor Harbor.
“The prize money has increased markedly,” Tony said. This will help attract the better horses.
“Most races will have prize money of $5500 with the Victor Harbor Cup having prize money to the tune of $10,000.
“We are working closely with Harness Racing SA to showcase the racing season in Victor Harbor.
“We want Victor Harbor to be the crown in country harness race meetings.”
Membership of the Victor Harbor Harness Racing Club is $20 and entitles entry for two people to the racing fixtures and is available on course. Bringing alcohol into the course is not permitted and there are no ATM facilities.
Tony said the committee has worked hard to make the harness racing season a pleasurable experience for families and is beginning to reap the returns with the crowds flocking back to a day at the races in Victor Harbor.
“There is plenty of parking available and we have done well to procure valuable sponsorship, so we can offer the prize money to attract the better horses,” he said.
“Attracting the best horses possible gives the club a greater profile and makes our meeting a very prestigious event.”
The Victor Harbor Harness Racing Club is located on the Ring Road.
