Victorian harness racing contenders Shane Sanderson and David Moran will head north in dreams of striking it rich in a last-ditch attempt to secure a TAB Eureka berth.
The David Moran-geared Captain Hammerhead and the Shane Sanderson-prepared Dangerous will be looking to make a case in Saturday nightās Racenet Discovery Stakes at Menangle.
Eureka slot holders TAB will use the race to find a replacement after initial pick Frankie Ferocious was ruled out of the worldās richest harness race.
Sanderson,46, is confident he has the horse that can mix it with the best.
āWe just tossed up this (Eureka) and the Vicbred and itās not often you get a chance to go into a two-million-dollar race,ā Sanderson said.
āWe thought he would be worth a shot and with the right run he could be up to them, but he is going to have to be good from the draw.ā
The horse out of Ark Monroe has drawn 10 for the $30,600 event.
āThe draw is certainly not ideal, that is what we have drawn so we are just going to have to make the most of it,ā he said.
Cameron Hart is set to pilot the winner of over $150,000 for the 2300m trip.
The David Moran-trained Captain Hammerhead will also make the trip north after his exceptional winning performance in Saturday nightās Lifestyle Communities Pace at Melton Entertainment Park.
āHe has pulled up really well and he seems really good,ā Moran said.
The Kialla reinsman is confident even with the tight back-up his four-year-old can be at his best come race day.
āWe donāt really want to back up this week and then go again the next week, itās not really what we want to do,ā heĀ said.
āHe will be okay, but it is not really what I would ideally like to do.ā
Captain Hammerhead has drawn five with Nathan Jack booked to pilot the pacer out of Rogers Passion.
Joining Captain Hammerhead and Dangerous will be the Emma Stewart-trained Oliver Dan who has drawn eight for the 2300m event.
