Twenty four year old reinsman Tom Buchanan has been selected as the Western Australian representative in the 2015 Australasian Young Drivers Championship to be held in New Zealand in May this year.
Western Australia’s Driving Master and Hall Of Fame inductee Trevor Warwick was high in his praise of Tom.
“One of Tom’s best attributes is his ability to analyse the form of his opposition and then drive accordingly”.
Buchanan has driven in 1003 races and has recorded 93 wins, 92 seconds and 105 thirds since his first race drive on 23rd October 2007 at Bunbury behind Cashmore Vance.
Cashmore Vance provided Tom with his first win at his 15th race drive.
After a slow start to his eight year career Tom has blossomed in the past two seasons with 62 of his 93 winners coming in that period.
His biggest win came in the Group One WA Sales Classic last April when he won with Persistent Threat for his trainer boss John Graham.
He is a dual winner of the RWWA Rising Stars Invitation Stakes in 2009 and 2012.
Tom was over the moon when told of his selection to represent his State.
“It’s an absolute privilege to be selected to represent Western Australia."
"There are many young drivers here that I respect and to be selected from the talented group is a little overwhelming”.
“I can’t wait to meet the other representatives, make new friends, and drive in New Zealand, a place which I’ve always wanted to go and have admired their Harness Racing for a long time”.
“It’s a great personal reward for a lot of recent hard work, and hopefully another stepping stone towards a long successful career in the sport I love”.
