Trainer Ben Yole had a day out at Carrick Park on Sunday with a harness racing training treble, which included the feature race, the Page Transport Carrick Cup with We Salute You (Well Said).
We Salute You ($4.60) stepped away cleanly in the 2650m standing start event to find the lead after the first 300m.
Driver Dylan Ford got some soft sections in the early stages of the race, turning the event into a sprint home, which was reflected with a mile rating of 2m 5.0s, and a slick 56.7s for the last half mile.
The seven-year-old gelding defeated stablemate No Nukes Skipper ($19) by half a metre, with Kuyomi ($4.80) two and a half metres away in a race dominated by those on the marker pegs.
āHe got a good time of it early, which surprised me,ā said Yole post-race.
āI thought he may have got a bit more pressure in the race.
āWhen they left him alone like that, he was always going to rip home in a good half.
āIt was nice to get him off the front, and not off a handicap and settle out the back as he has been, so once he was able to lead, he was always going to be hard to beat,ā the trainer explained.
We Salute You ran a good second in the heat of the L.H.T Cup in Hobart last week, and the $14,000 final will be held this Saturday night in Hobart, which will be his next main aim.
āHe qualified last week when he ran second, he was probably a bit stiff there.
Other winners for the Yole stable were Beast Mode, who completed a weekend double after winning in Hobart on Friday night, and Lalibela, who led all the way to record her fifth career win.
Yole was also an active player at the Tasmanian Harness Yearling Sale, which was conducted after the race meeting.
