Options . . . that is what connections of Rock N Roll Doo have following his success in harness racing’s Group 2 $80,000 Kilmore Cup tonight (Sep. 23)
The most immediate task for the son of Rock N Roll Heaven is the $300,000 Victoria Cup at Melton on October 8.
But the question is what will follow?
The four-year-old’s most recent success gave him a ‘golden ticket’ to the upcoming Inter Dominion where he automatically gains a start in the heats.
However, connections have also recently qualified the gelding from standing start conditions with the possibility of heading across the ditch for the New Zealand Cup on November 11.
“We’ve got the Victoria Cup in a fortnight so we won’t go past that just yet,” said trainer-driver Michael Stanley.
“Brendan (owner) and I have spoken quite a lot about New Zealand and we qualified him and we did that very well so that will keep our options open.
“You get to these races, they are lucrative prizemoney and it could be the trip of a lifetime.
“We have a lot to play out before then but our main aim now is getting him ready for two weeks’ time, the Victoria Cup.”
Owner Brendan James reiterated this.
“We’re not going to race him in everything,” James told TrotsVision.
“Only serious Grand Circuit horses win the Kilmore Cup.
“I never thought I would get a horse better than Jaccka Clive but at this stage, this guy is better.”
Jaccka Clive raced in two Kilmore Cup’s in his career, finishing out of the money on both occasions.
However, he did retire with a record of 31 wins and as many placings in 115 starts with earnings of $493,178.
Rock N Roll Doo has collected $224,150 in stakes so far from 11 wins and seven placings in 28 starts.
In his previous victory, Rock N Roll Doo made a run from back in the field, however, tonight he controlled the tempo in front.
Stanley let the pacer slide to the lead and his quarters were 29.7, 30.7, 26.7 and 27.9 seconds resulting in a mile rate of 1:57.4 for the 2690m time-honoured feature.
“This was a good stepping stone,” said Stanley.
“He was really switched on tonight . . . you need a horse that has versatility.”
THE NEXT BIG THING!
