As we embark on another Breeders Crown journey, let’s take a quick look back at last year’s winners to see where they’re at this time around.
2014 2YO TROTTING FILLIES
My Arya
Since her Breeders Crown win she’s raced eight times in Australia for eight wins. They haven’t caught up to her yet.
2014 2YO TROTTING COLTS/GELDINGS
Eljaykay Phoenix
Hasn’t looked himself at his last couple of starts, galloping at Menangle and then again in the Holmfield at Melton.
He was a super two-year-old and I wouldn’t be writing him off. But it does seem the field has caught up a bit.
2014 2YO FILLIES
Katy Perry
The filly named after a pop star has joined Sydney trainer Shane Tritton after winning the 2YO Crown last year for New Zealand’s Cran Dalgety.
“It was quite exciting to get a filly like her, she is very talented and under the Australian grading system she arrives back in Australia as a maiden three-year-old filly,” Tritton said earlier this month.
She will be here to have a serious crack at the three-year-old Crown.

Follow The Stars
Can the super two-year-old of last season become the super three-year-old this time around? He’s working his way through a Vicbred preparation and won his heat at Shepparton recently by 8.1m over Show Me The Bling. He’s a member of Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen’s All Stars team. That’s a big bonus.
2014 3YO COLTS/GELDINGS
Major Crocker
On a Vicbred path at the moment and returned to winning form on Saturday night at Kilmore, holding off The Fat Man at the finish after burning early.
He was big odds last year and there still seems to be a view around that he’ll need luck to go back-to-back in the Crown. But if this guy does do it again, he’ll silence the doubters.
2014 3YO FILLIES
Just Cala
Now in the Amanda Turnbull and Nathan Jack stable, Just Cala went to the Harness Jewels in New Zealand and couldn’t match the best over there.
That said, the experience will no doubt hold her in good stead and her Australian form is strong. She looks certain to play another big role on Super Sunday.
2014 3YO TROTTERS
Our Twentyten
The Brent Lilley-trained trotter won at Melton on Friday night when aided by a brilliant piece of driving by reinsman Rodney Petroff.
He looks to have returned in great nick.
