Harness Racing’s golden marvel Bulletproof Boy (Art Official) has a wider draw than trainer Scott Ewen would have liked, but will acquire the services of Australia’s leading driver, James Herbertson for Saturday night’s Group 1 Sportsbet A.G. Hunter Cup.
“He has drawn a little bit wide, but there is nothing to worry about, looking at the field there is going to be plenty of action,” Ewen said.
“James Herbertson is staying with him, and he text me straight after the draw and said ‘we didn’t draw so well’.”
The 10-year-old has had an incredible 2025 to date with wins at both Bendigo and Ballarat on Cup night and decided to skip last Saturday’s Hertz Melton Casey Classic.
“I missed the Casey Classic only because he ran those two big cups and did a pretty good job,” he said.
“He had a fortnight between the two cups and there was nothing wrong with how he went in the Ballarat Cup after a fortnight off so I gave him another fortnight off again this week,” he said.
“I’m going to the Hunter Cup and then the Cranbourne Cup the week after, so he got a break this week – he will be good to go.”
Bulletproof Boy is no stranger to performing against some of harness racing’s heavyweights.
“He has already beaten Tact Mcleod fair and square and they are rating Tact Mcleod as one of the good chances – so why can’t he (Bulletproof Boy) be,” Ewen said.
“When you see Leap To Fame has drawn eight – that’s a mongrel of a draw for him and he is probably going to have to restrain at the start and go around the whole field.
“It’s going to be a quickly run race and that is going to suit us down to the ground.”
The gelding will make his first A.G. Hunter Cup appearance in a start 204.
“He is just a star and if I can run midfield or better – I will be wrapped,” he said.
The $250,000 Sportsbet A.G. Hunter Cup is set to go at 8.43pm.
