Gun young reinsman James Herbertson capped off a memorable night when he steered Overandout (Majestic Son) to harness racing victory in the Allied Express Trotters Final at Melton.Ā
Herberston urged Overandout to the lead with 1600 metres to travel,Ā and although getting tired over the concluding stages,Ā the eight-year-old managed to hold on and score by two metres from the $2 favorite Berriesandcherries.Ā
Herbertson said he was optimistic about the chances of the Robert Evans trained trotter.Ā
āI was fairly confident with this horse as 12 months ago he was racing in Queensland against some of their best trotters,ā Herbertson said.Ā
Herbertson said Overandout was well in on the national ratings system.Ā
āItās a credit to Rob to find this race, even last week we sat three fence and following a 39 rater and tonight was a perfect race for him and I was able to drive him fairly confident early,ā he said.Ā
The class factor is a big thing and you could see it on paper with him being a 70 rater racing against 55 and 60 raters.Ā
We made it a pretty solid test but he was up to it.āĀ
The win completed a winning treble for the 24-year-old Herbertson who also partnered Operative Line and Tilly Jayne to wins earlier in the night.Ā
Harness Racing Victoria conducted its Awards Night at the meeting where Herbertson received recognition for being last seasonās Leading State Driver along with the Leading Concession Driver.Ā
