One conversation with Suzanne Grace and you simply can’t resist jumping on the bandwagon fuelled by her passion.
Training a small team, the 72-year-old horsewoman is riding the crest of a wave thanks to in-form harness racing mare Winsome Ruby (Bacardi Lindy).
A veteran of 132 starts, Winsome Ruby has struck a purple patch like never before, winning her last five outings.
While there are dozens of trotters and pacers which achieve such a feat each season, Winsome Ruby’s winning streak is the longest Grace has been involved with.
“It is amazing to have her win her last five starts,” Grace said. “I’ve never had a horse get within a cooee of that.
“Shutterbug winning two races in a row for me in April 2013 is the best I’ve had.
“She has just lifted to another zone recently I am thrilled with her.”
Returning to Globe Derby yesterday, Winsome Ruby completed her quintet by leading throughout from barrier three.
WINSOME RUBY REPLAY
Driven by highly-talented young reinsman Corey Johnson, the daughter of Bacardi Lindy rated 2:01.1 over 1800 metres as Piesridingshotgun and SirEd filled the placings.
“I would never have dreamed she’d win five in a row,” Grace said. “I’m absolutely over the moon with her.
“How long she can keep the winning streak going no one knows, but she is doing an amazing job and we’ll just keep enjoying it for as long as we can.”
