Yabby Dam Farms, the most formidable trotting outfit in Australasia, provided the harness racing quinella in tonight’s (Sep. 16) Group 1 Haras Des Trotteurs Vicbred Super Series (4YO Trotting Mares) Final after Gardena Ronda (Used To Me) and Revelstoke were first past the post.
Yabby Dam Farms also bred the quinella horses in the opening race the Vicbred Super Series (3YO Trotting Colts & Geldings) Final.
Mark Pitt urged Gardena Ronda out from her outside front row draw and the daughter of Used To Me speared across to lead with her stablemate and $2.80 favorite Revelstoke on her back awaiting the sprint lane.
The Anton Golino trained mares cleared out from their rivals around the home turn and Gardena Ronda ($8.50) found plenty in the run to the line scoring by eight metres from Revelstoke and Aldebaran Vera in a mile rate of 1:57.4
GARDENA RONDA REPLAY
Pitt said the Gardena Ronda on her toes in the parade ring and ready to race.
“She was really strong in the warm up tonight and even a bit strong in her heat but tonight she was really strong,” Pitt said.
“And even when she found the front she never really relaxed too much but she carved out some good sectionals and was too strong for them,” he said.
Pitt admitted he was wary of the well backed Revelstoke enjoying the trail behind the leader.
“It was always a concern having Revelstoke on my back but I had confidence that if my mare ran good sectionals she would be very hard to beat,” he said.
The win provided Pitt with his 19th Group 1 victory and Anton Golino with his 27th Group 1 success.
