Consistent pacer Yambukian (Bettors Delight) continued his good form of late when he led all the way to take out the CNC Router Bits Free for All at Melton on Saturday night.

Showing brilliant speed from barrier 6, Yambukian crossed to the front for driver Jordan Leedham ahead of stablemate Tango Tara whose driver Kate Gath opted to take the trail behind the leader.
The ten year old Bulletproof Boy from the second row weaved through early on to be mid field but then when the pace slowed down, his driver James Herbertson whipped around the field to race outside the leader and this move allowed Jilliby Nitro to secure the one out and one back trail.
YAMBUKIAN APR 5 REPLAY
Yambukian had a breather in the second quarter running 30.1 seconds but then Leedham put on the pace in the final 800 metres. Tango Tara was looking to get an inside and Bulletproof Boy looked to be struggling on the final bend. But Bulletproof Boy kept slogging away and gradually he began to overhaul Yambukian.
However the winning post was too close and in a desperate finish Yambukian held on to win by half a head from a gallant Bulletproof Boy with Tango Tara three metres away third.
Leedham commented after the event. “Actually he was a lot sharper tonight than what he usually is so I sort of got him off the gate. You usually got to ask him a little but tonight he just came out on his own and yeah just from the wide draw was able to get across. It was a sort of a quick first 200 off the gate but once I got across to the pegs he sort of because he’s quite lazy he just come back to me straight away. So the second part of the race was nice and easy for him and was able to get that cheap second quarter and then I was able to get rolling down the back and he was good enough to hang on.”
“He’d be top tier for sure. He’s been there since the day I’ve been there and he just got better and better every preparation so its good to see him keep his consistent form going and getting a win on the board.”
Act Now who won a Victoria Cup was eased back to the rear but was never likely, although when the leaders ran a final quarter of 26.7 seconds it would have been difficult to make up any ground. Nonetheless he appears to be a shadow of what he has shown in the past.
