Trainer-driver Mark Yole is unsure of the plans for Sunday night’s Hobart harness racing winner Buster William (Rock N Roll Heaven).
The nine-year-old gelding was sent out the $2.15 favourite and led all the way from his pole draw to win the rating 75 to 105 event (2579m), over Cool Water Paddy and Cullenburn in a mile rate of 2m 4.0s.
“He has been knocking on the door for a few starts now but has found it a bit tough against our better free-for-all horses.
“I thought if I didn’t have to do much work in front, he would be very hard to beat,” said trainer-driver Mark Yole.
Yole is unsure of future plans for the gelding.
“We are just looking at options as we are a little bit stuck now as a 90-rater.
“He isn’t quite up to the good ones in the mobiles, he could probably win a stand, but his manners aren’t the best.
“I will have to talk to owners Wayne and Wanda Campbell as I’m thinking about sending him over to Melton for one of those races for horses who haven’t won a race over $15,000.”
Yole also had success earlier in the night when driving both legs of a training double for the Danny Malone stable.
Spooky Girl took out the $14,000 Leis for the Tasbred Fillies and Mares, where she sprinted home best after settling well back in the field.
“If she is saved up for that last sprint, she finishes off strongly, which she did last night.
“I was very worried I was too far back, Stepping Stones was really good in Launceston last week, so I thought it would be hard to beat so when I was back there, I was hoping for a top-three finish,” Yole recalled.
Ifihadyourluck gelding Southern Luck broke his maiden at his third race start earlier in the night after racing three wide for the final 1100m to the 400m, where he found the spot outside the leader.
“I think there is a bit of talent there to work with.
“He is very green and is a really big raw horse, so with natural improvement, I see him winning a few races,” said the driver.
Yole currently leads the states drivers’ premiership with 44 wins, and given his brilliant start to the season, he could well give 100 winners for the term a shake.
If he can reach triple figures, he will be the first driver since Gareth Rattray in the 2014/15 season to achieve the feat.
