He did not want to sit parked but that is the way premier reinsman Greg Sugars added another Group 1 trophy to his harness racing record when Just Believe (Orlando Vici) won tonightās Bill Collins Trotters Sprint at Melton.
In just his fourth start under the guidance of Jess Tubbs, Just Believe caused a minor boilover to win the $75,000 feature at starting odds of $7, doing it the tough way.
The six-year-old held off the two race favourites in Ollivici and Queen Elida, that finished second and third respectively, in a career best mile rate of 1:55.9.
āPre-race I didnāt want to be parked. I was hoping a situation might unfold that Iād be able to work forward with Ollivici and (be) a chance of finding the front, so initially I thought it was not great once he lobbed my back,ā Sugars said.
āI was always pretty confident I had the leaderās (Sundons Courage) measure, so I just had to rate him accordingly.ā
This has marked a sensational year for Tubbs and her husband Sugars who have won six Group 1 races together in that time.
āIt has been a sensational last 12 or 18 months for our stable and probably way beyond what we could have dreamed of,ā Sugars said.
As for Just Believe, he extended his record to 11 wins and 13 placings in 45 starts.
