Menangle based harness racing trainer Cameron Ross continues to make a name for himself as an astute trainer since branching out on his own two seasons ago.
Ross had previously gained valuable experience working with some of the sports leading mentors and is now channeling that knowledge into his own success here in New South Wales.
On Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 30) at his home track, Ross prepared promising two-year-old filly Peaceful (Sweet Lou) for her second win in the past fortnight when she trounced her rivals to score by a big margin, rating a smart 1.52.4.
Raced by prominent Wagga owner Dianne Kelly, Peaceful was destined to be something special, being the daughter of former champion racemare Frith.
Frith earned $1.18 million from her 63 career starts of which she won 39 races and while her first born has big shoes to follow, she has certainly started on the right foot.
“She is a potential topliner,” RossĀ said of Peaceful.
“Her win on Tuesday justified my belief of how much ability I feel she has.
āI guess we will find out over the next few months exactly how good she is when she contests both the NSW Breeders Challenge and Victorian Breeders Crown Series.
“But I really do think she is right up there with the best fillies that have been produced to date.
“Her owners Dianne and Bernie Kelly have been wonderful to me, and we have enjoyed a great run of success together over the past few years, firstly with Steno and now this filly.ā
PEACEFUL REPLAY
Ross will produce another new acquisition to his stable at Penrith on Thursday night (Sep. 1) when Ideal In Dreams contests the Sky Racing Active Pace (race 3).
Raced by a cast of owners involved with BPM Bloodstock, Ideal In Dreams is another classy filly that Ross will prepare for the feature races in the months ahead.
“She is quite forward in condition for her run,ā Ross said.
āI had intended to trial her prior to this race but then decided a first up run in this grade would be ideal to give me a better gauge at how she is shaping up.
“When Brendon (Micallef) asked me to train her, I was more than pleased to do so.
āShe is a quality little filly that I feel will do a good job for her owners.”
