A trifecta of harness racing wins awaits Zarski (Father Patrick) ahead of his appearance in the third heat of the Always Ready Vicbred Super Series for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings at Maryborough on Wednesday.
The Gary Donaldson-trained squaregaiter has had two wins to start his racing career, with his last triumph coming at Melton on August 23.
āHe is good and has come along well and he is improving all the time,ā Donaldson said. āThe two races that he has had have really sharpened him up.ā
The unblemished record to start the geldingās career is music to the 67-year-oldās ears.
āI am delighted with the way he has started off and he is a very good gaited horse,ā he said.ā Right from day one he has hardly ever galloped at all, which is unusual for a two-year-old.ā
Leading reinsman James Herbertson is set to pilot the gelding in Wednesdayās $10,000 event over the 2190m trip. which is a step up from his last success over 1720m.
āTomorrow is the first run outside of the short course – that might be the only question mark, but his track work indicates to me that he is quite strong and will stay the distance okay,ā Donaldson, from Junortoun, said.
The gelding out of Donski will have a 10-days turn around before the Vicbred finals on September 14th.
āWe will just get him through the heat tomorrow and he will have 10-days before the final, which will be ideal for him,ā Donaldson said.
Qualifiers from the Vicbred Super Series trotters heats move straight through to the Group 1 classics on September 14 at Melton Entertainment Park.
