Captain Mike Deo (Captaintreacherous) shocked the Track On 2 harness racing public by ending a run of 23 straight losses – and hitting the board for the first time this year – at 16-1 odds on Wednesday (Aug. 30).
The gelding remained seated seventh for Michael Hennessy through the first half and motioned to the outside fourth-over as the field entered the third quarter. He started his rally in mid-stretch and passed six opponents in the last eighth of a mile for an upset win in 1:57.2. He outkicked fellow closer Miss Lucy Lu (Chris Brown) by a quarter-length. T N Custard (Jamie Gray) also motored late for third.
CAPTAIN MIKE DEO REPLAY
Captain Mike Deo, a $200,000 Lexington purchase, has now won three of his 44 starts. His most recent win came on Nov. 24, 2022, and he had not hit the board in 2023 prior to his Wednesday win. He was also not closer than six lengths to victory in any start since May. Trainer Brent Bodor purchased the four-year-old in late 2022.
The Track On 2 will return to action on Saturday, Sep. 2. September will be its last month of racing for the year.
