Outlaw Spiced Rum (Blue Burner) became the joint-third winningest harness racing horse in North America this season as she wired her opponents in the Fillies and Mares Preferred at Fraser Downs on Thursday (Oct. 31).

The mare quickly attained pace control from post two for Allan Molloy and cut uncontested first-half fractions of :28.1 and :58.2. Outlaw Allie Oops (Dave Hudon) bit the first-over bullet and put the leader under pressure through three-quarters in 1:25.4. Outlaw Spiced Rum kicked back out to a two-length lead on the turn and resisted the challenger to the finish, coming home a length winner in 1:54.2. Outlaw Allie Oops was a clear second with In High Cotton (Kelly Hoerdt) third.

OUTLAW SPICED RUM REPLAY

It was Outlaw Spiced Rum’s first win at the Preferred level and her 27th overall. The six-year-old is three-for-four since moving to the barn of Rod Therres at the start of the month. She has earned $150,922 in 82 lifetime starts.

The Preferred victory highlighted a driving grand slam for Molloy, who won half of the night’s eight races.

Fraser Downs resumes racing on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. PDT.
