Legendary Hanover (Huntsville) took a first step in fulfilling his name when the $260,000 yearling purchase won his harness racing debut on Friday (Jul. 7) by open lengths.
After starting fourth, James MacDonald ordered him to the lead. He cruised through the middle half and kicked away coming down the lane, winding down near the line to win by three-and-a-quarter lengths in 1:54.2. Erinwood Bigrig (Jody Jamieson) finished second with Twin B Hungergames (Tyler Moore) a narrow third over Always A Thrill (Bob McClure).
LEGENDARY HANOVER REPLAY
West Wins Stable of Wellington, Eric Good of Davidsonville, and Mark Dumain of Pine Bush purchased the colt from the Lexington Select sale. Tony Beaton conditions the freshman.
D A Wicked Shine (Mcwicked, Jamieson) was promoted to the win in the first two-year-old race of the night after missing by a head in 1:54.3. He chased down pacesetter At Ease Hanover, but the charging Dandys Pandemic (Louis-Philippe Roy) caught him late. However, the judges disqualified Dandys Pandemic to second for incurring inside two pylons and being lapped on at the finish, and to third for gaining an unfair advantage while racing inside the pylons.
D A WICKED SHINE REPLAY
It was a winning debut for D A Wicked Shine. Jack Darling Stables purchased the gelding from the London Classic sale for $57,000. Jack Darling trains him.
The third maiden-breaker was Do Better (Bettors Delight, Syvlain Filion), who prevailed after a late rally in 1:55. From third, he passed Enforcer (Doug McNair) and Minett (Jamieson), who finished second and third, respectively.
