Legendary Hanover (Huntsville) backed up his impressive debut victory with a speedy win in the first leg of the Dream Maker for two-year-old harness racing pacers on Friday (Jul. 28) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
James MacDonald repeated his first-start approach with the colt, dropping him into fourth. After early panels of :27.4 and :56.4 set by At Ease Hanover (Syvlain Filion) and Minett (Jody Jamieson), respectively, Legendary Hanover fired to the lead to put up the three-quarter time of 1:24.4.
Legendary Hanover soared several lengths clear after circling the leader, and he wound down near the finish to score by two lengths in 1:52.1. The mile time makes him the fastest two-year-old in Canada so far this year.
Supplemental Fee (Doug McNair) finished well to take the place spot. Minett held onto third, surviving an inquiry.
LEGENDARY HANOVER REPLAY
Legendary Hanover has now earned $18,000 in his two starts. Tony Beaton tarins the rookie for West Wins Stable of Wellington, Eric Good of Davidsonville, and Mark Dumain of Pine Bush. The group bought him for $260,000 from the Lexington Select sale. Heās out of Lillian Hanover, who produced Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup winner Linedrive Hanover.
McNair also captured the $32,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace to complete a driving grand slam. He steered Silver Label (Bettors Delight) to a tight victory over Dabarndawgswatchin (Louis-Philippe Roy) in 1:48.4. A neck separated the top two, and Western Wish (Tyler Borth) was a further length-and-a-half back in third.
SILVER LABEL REPLAY
Silver Label is now 18-for-33 with $1,110,568 in earnings. Nick Gallucci trains the four-year-old Millar Farms homebred who is an Ontario Sires Stakes champion and winner of multiple open stakes.
Woodbine Mohawk Park concludes its race week on Saturday, Jul. 29. The first of 10 races will begin at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
