Itll Be Fine (Hes Watching) won his first Preferred-Handicap at Fraser Downs since returning from Minnesota in a rail-skimming, 27-1 harness racing upset on Friday (Sep. 20).

The gelding locked down fifth position from the second-tier post eight for Dave Hudon, staying on the pylons through :26.3 and :54.3 first-half splits. He circled two rivals in a slick move to scoop the pocket before three-quarters in 1:22.4 and waited for the passing lane. The gelding rallied to get past odds-on pacesetter Sunshine Boy (Scott Knight) and won by a length in 1:52.2. Waitin Ona River (Kevin Anderson) went from sixth to third in the final eighth with a huge closing kick.

ITLL BE FINE REPLAY

Itll Be Fine spent the summer at Running Aces in Minnesota for the third straight year and returned to British Columbia last week, finishing seventh in the Preferred. Richard Lancaster trains the gelding, who has now earned $201,788, and co-owns him with Leslie Godlien of Langley. The five-year-old is 20-for-85 lifetime.

Knight won three of the night’s eight races.

Racing will continue at Fraser Downs on Thursday, Sep. 26.
