Journeyman harness racing gelding Julio Lauxmont stunned bettors on Thursday (May 19) at Flamboro Downs as he closed from sixth at three-quarters to win at 54-1.
Jason Ryan took the longshot son of Arts Card Trick back to seventh from post six and held position at the pylons through :27.4 and :56.3 opening fractions. The reinsman shifted the gelding third-over on the backstretch and stacked him three-high behind Risin Horizon (J. Bradley Harris) to get around the parked-out but advancing P L Idaho (Mark Goddard).
P L Idaho dispatched leader On Cruise Control (Nick Boyd) after a long first-up road as they entered the stretch. Risin Horizon continued to close, but Julio Lauxmont flew fastest of all and passed three rivals late to score in 1:57.1.
P L Idaho held second in a brave effort. Global Supremacy (Paul Mackenzie) split foes late and reached up for third. The winner returned $111.50.
