Harness racing driver Doug McNair reached the $70 million earning milestone on Saturday (Jun. 25) as he steered Wheels On Fire (Somebeachsomewhere) to victory at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
He hustled the gelding out from post six to take point in a :26.1 opening panel. The 1/5 favourite cooled the pace down to a :55.2 half but was forced by an advancing American History (Sylvain Filion) to pick it up again to three-quarters in 1:22.2.
Wheels On Fire spun off the turn and unleashed his remaining energy to kick two lengths ahead. The seven-year-old then powered home to score in 1:49 and give McNair $13,000 more in earnings – enough to eclipse $70,000,000 lifetime.
