A fitting performance to win $50,000 Barrieau-McIsaac

Jackies Boy (Tobago Cays) broke the harness racing track record for three-year-old pacers in the $50,000 Barrieau-McIsaac stake on Friday (Aug. 30), the richest race ever held at Woodstock Raceway.

Starting the main event at the pylons, Jackies Boy went forward to claim command early in a :28.1 quarter for driver Myles Heffernan. He had no trouble to the half in :57.2 when his season-long nemesis, Tobins Chester (Jason Hughes) pulled out of fourth and caught the cover of Allaboutthecash (Brady Sweet).

Jackies Boy had a length on Allaboutthecash at three-quarters in 1:26.2, and Tobins Chester went three-wide to take his shot on the final turn. Tobins Chester came up empty, however, and Merigo Magic (Adam Merner) had nothing extra from the pocket. Jackies Boy pulled away to capture the Barrieau-McIsaac by two-and-a-quarter lengths in 1:54.4.

Merigo Magic finished second with Tobins Chester third.

The performance lowered Jackies Boy’s own week-old record of 1:56, which he achieved in his elimination.

JACKIES BOY REPLAY

It was also a new career-best for Jackies Boy, who is 11-for-20 lifetime with $125,477 in earnings. Heffernan trains, owns, and bred the gelding. It was Jackie’s Boy’s fourth win of the season.

Racing is set to resume at Woodstock on Saturday, Sep. 7.
