Harness racing returns to northern Alberta on Sep. 9 when Century Mile hosts the first card of the new season.
$106,900 will be given out in prize money for 13 races during the first day back in Edmonton.
Century Mile will also be the site for several stake races over the next few months. First up is leg 3 for Alberta Sire Stake’s filly and colt divisions. Eliminations for the AB Princess and AB Plainsmen are scheduled for Sep. 23, with the finals being a week later on Sep. 30. Virtual Horizon (Vertical Horizon) will be looking to continue his perfect year and add to his lead in the Alberta Sires Stake standings.The top fillies, Beep Bop A Lula (Vertical Horizon), Shesmyinspiration (Outrageous Art) and G Ts Skyla (Mystician), are all tight at the top of the table.
The two-year-old stake season kicks off at Century Mile with leg 1 for both fillies and colts on Sep. 23. The boys will run in the AB Shooting Star, and the girls have their turn in the AB Stardust. The second leg for the colts and fillies is set for Oct. 7.
The $75,000 Super Finals and $15,000 consolations for all divisions will be conducted on Nov. 4.
Two of the biggest open stakes in western Canada, the Century Casino Filly Pace and Western Canada Pacing Derby, will be on Oct. 21, with the eliminations being a week prior if needed.
Century Mile will have live harness racing on Fridays and Saturdays for the remainder of 2023 at 6:15 p.m. MDT. The one Sunday date is the annual New Year’s Eve, which also starts at the same time.
